Chesswood Junior School

Pupil Feedback

Introduction

This report details the outcomes from the latest pupil wellbeing questionnaire. The questionnaire uses questions in line with Ofsted Parent View: https://parentview.ofsted.gov.uk/parent-view-results for us to compare parent and pupil views in the school on the same issues. There are a few additional questions to the Parent View ones that seek pupils’ views on the school and their wellbeing. The final two questions allow for pupils to express their opinions on improvements the school can make and the best things Chesswood offers. Due to the language used in some questions, teachers explained the question before pupils completed the questionnaire on iPads in class.

The latest survey was completed by 580 pupils (out of 620) in all classes during the week of 14-18 December 2020.

Pupil comments regarding improvements were followed up in incidents where it was deemed teachers needed to be aware of the issues raised. The school council and school governors will be provided with the information in this report to consider whether they can take any ideas for improvements into future action.

Pupil Comments - What could improve

Year Comments Comments
3
  • More Art
  • More D.T
  • Not so many subjects / less lessons
  • Class pets
  • 20 mins of playtime
  • A pool
  • I don’t think Chesswood could improve
4
  • Helping the children but not exactly giving them the answer
  • More sports to make us fitter
  • More reading for pleasure time
  • In spelling if we all get 10/10 we could get a reward like we could play Minecraft for 10 min
  • Maybe we could add a room for the high learners so they could learn harder things while others are in the classroom.
  • I would like longer playtime because we work hard all day
  • A reading corner in the playground
  • More codes like bright sparks
  • No school uniform
  • I personally don't think there is anything I want to improve at Chesswood Junior School but I would want to spend more time with my teachers!
5
  • Some of the teachers are too harsh and strict
  • More DT / More engineering lessons / More cooking lessons
  • More English lessons / More reading time
  • There could be more support for the kids who are more academically confident instead of just focusing on people who are not as confident
  • More fun tasks everyone enjoys
  • Maybe if they don’t push people I know it helps with learning but I don’t really like it
  • I think we could have separate desks so we could have more privacy
  • I wish you could get equipment for playtime because it’s still fun but it could get way better!!
  • To make sure everybody has someone to play with and make sure no one is feeling left out cause it can make you feel really sad
  • A bigger playground
  • Have popcorn for dessert at hot school meals
  • I think we should improve the amount of children not shouting out because sometimes my teachers let people shout out.
  • I think nothing can be improved because it is already amazing
  • Make it stop sexism, racism, bullying and bullying people with different sexualities because it harms peoples’ lives with just a couple of words.
6
  • Make sure all staff are notified of people's disabilities and once they are make sure they follow the rule of BRIGHT SPARKS and it's not just us following it
  • School councillor that you can say your problems to and they can’t tell anyone
  • A free-time lesion if we have been good to like draw and play Minecraft together / Have free time for at least 10 mins like other schools I've been to (in Brighton)

  • Have 20 mins in the playtime
  • They could get us more things to do in wet play as it is boring at wet play
  • Improve the behaviour of certain children and classes
  • I think that Chesswood can improve by reducing the amount of bullies there are as there are quite a few, even in my class (I am not naming as I don’t want to point fingers)
  • Chesswood could do something that shows us what adult life is like and what the workplace is like
  • Nothing could because I think it is a good school
