Year 3 Daily Learning
Home Learning Programme
Hello and welcome to Year 3's daily learning for you all to work on during lockdown. We've posted lots of resources below and our expectation is that you'll be trying to do as much work at home as you would normally do during a day in school at Chesswood.
An example timetable is included below which will be very similar to the one that the children who are still coming into school will be following.
We recommend that children record their work in their pink homework books (but it's fine if you prefer to use something else). Should you need a pink homework book, these can be collected from the school office.
If you have any questions please email either your year-group leader or your class teacher and we'll get back to you as quickly as we can.

MONDAY 1ST MARCH
Good morning Year 3! We hope you had a brilliant weekend and enjoyed your lighter learning day on Friday. This is the start of our final week of daily home learning and Teams calls before you all return to school next Monday. It's going to be so good to see you all! On Thursday this week, it's World Book Day - we've got a special treat for you on the Year 3 Daily Learning page. Underneath this writing, you will see a link to our new Story Corner. On here you will find hours of stories read to you by Year 3 teachers. There is a selection of short stories and longer stories broken up into smaller parts. We really hope you enjoy these. Watch this space for new videos during this week!
Aside from this, today's assessment task is Maths - you're working on adding lengths today. We have created an assessment quiz on Forms - good luck with this, we look forward to seeing your attempts! There is a new comprehension task for you to try today too, called Echo Effects. There is a new guide video to talk you through today's Nasty Writing and today's main writing task. Remember if you have any problems getting any of the links to work just let Mr Gilbert know and we'll get it sorted. Today is one of the days that Joe Wicks is doing a live workout - good luck if you're giving this a go! Lastly, there is a new Computing task for you, where you are learning to code a space game!
Have a brilliant day children!

WEEK 7
FRIDAY 26TH FEBRUARY
Good morning Year 3. Today is a little different to normal as it is a Lighter Learning day - a chance for you catch up on earlier work, perhaps try some work you haven't tried before and enter our Computer Screen Background competition or an exciting new writing competition. To help you today there are 4 key documents. You can view the Guide for the Day and list of IXL tasks more clearly by clicking on them. The Bright Sparks code may well help you when designing your Computer Screen Background. You can find out more details about the writing competition by clicking on the image below. It would be amazing if someone in Year 3 could win it! Have a good day today and a restful half term break. If you have any questions or need help accessing tasks, please email Mr Gilbert (ngilbert@chesswood.w-sussex.sch.uk).
THURSDAY 25TH FEBRUARY
Good morning Year 3 - we hope you had a fabulous day yesterday. There is lots to tell you about today. First of all, your morning Teams call at 8.45 this morning is the last one for this week. That's because tomorrow - Friday 26th February is a lighter learning day, where you will have the chance to catch up on things you may have missed or just need a bit more time on. Suggestions for IXL tasks will be posted on here tomorrow morning, but there won't be a Daily Learning Plan.
Thank you for your submissions for the English task - a feedback video for this will follow at the start of next week. Today, you have new tasks for Science and DT. You also have a feedback video for your previous Science assessment from before half term. The Science assessment involves completing an assessment on Forms - good luck with this! You have a really helpful video to talk you through today's DT work, which is starting to look at tower making.
Lastly, please don't forget that you have support videos for Maths, Nasty Writing and English to help you with each of these tasks today. Good luck with your home learning today!

WEDNESDAY 24TH FEBRUARY
Good morning Year 3 - we hope you had a great day yesterday. It was good to receive so many posters for the Geography assessment task - there will be a feedback video talking you through this available for the start of your next Geography lesson next week. Speaking of feedback videos, you'll find there is a new video today for Maths which talks through the assessment task that you completed on Monday. You are continuing to look at measurement today in Maths by focussing on comparing lengths.
In Reading, you are looking at understanding the meaning of words in context - to help you with this, there are lesson slides and a task to complete. There is a new lesson video for Nasty Writing and for Writing today. Please watch these as they will really help you - especially the Writing video, as today's assessed piece is Writing. Please email your teacher with your assessment piece today, which is a paragraph of writing.
As it's Wednesday, don't forget Mr Quick and Mr Haggart will be doing a live exercise class (join at 10.55 for an 11.00 start) - your invitation will be on Teams. There is also a couple of new tasks for Music looking at Beethoven.
Lastly, this is a reminder that this morning's class catch up - our 30-minute get together is at 10-10.30, not 10.15-10.45. Have a great day!

TUESDAY 23RD FEBRUARY
Good morning children. We hope you had a great day of home learning yesterday. It was so pleasing to see so many of you complete the Maths assessment task - well done! A video talking you through this assessment will follow on Wednesday. You are carrying on looking at measuring today - focussing on equivalent lengths (mm & cm) - don't worry if this confuses you at the moment, the help video will make it clearer! Today in reading, the focus is on reading for pleasure - lots of you have already started to make progress towards your target after passing quizzes yesterday - very well done! Remember you can find the link to the AR website to take quizzes on the daily learning plan.
There is a new guide video for today's Nasty Writing and Writing task. Do watch these as they will help you, especially as tomorrow we move onto an assessed piece of work for Writing. Today you are looking at forming a balanced argument.
We begin a new piece of learning today, with our Geography topic - We are Air Quality Officers. There is some recapping to do, thinking back to our town planning topic from before Christmas. Today's assessed piece of work is a poster showing which settlement has the greatest problems with pollution and what the causes of this are. To submit your work, take a photo of your work and email it to your teacher - we can't wait to see what you can do!
Have a great day of home learning today!

MONDAY 22ND FEBRUARY
****Daily Learning plan should now be fixed - please email ngilbert@chesswood.w-sussex.sch.uk if you experience any further difficulties :-)****
Good morning Year 3! Welcome back - we all hope you had a lovely half term break. It seemed to go very quickly! All of your teachers are looking forward to seeing you this morning during the Teams call. Today, your assessed work is in Maths - this is a quiz on Forms, just like the previous Maths assessment work. Don't panic if you find it tricky - it's been a while seen you have done work, the help video should talk you through what you need to know. Remember, don't worry if you have got an answer correct but the website tells you it's wrong - there are lots of different ways to enter the same answer. We try to think of them all, but we do see each of your answers and change them to correct at school if we see you got the answer correct, just typed in a different way.
There is a new reading comprehension today - with a text to read and 7 questions to answer. Also, everyone's reading targets start again at 0%. Don't worry about the targets from last half term - we have a record of who reached their targets, and how many times they met it and we will arrange prize draws for this when everyone is back in school.
In English today, you're looking at persuasive writing - good luck spotting those persuasive features! In Computing you will be using code to go on a Minecraft adventure! Lastly, today is one of the days that Joe Wicks does a live workout at 9am - good luck if you give this a go. Alternatively, you may wish to give the latest virtual school challenges a go.
Have a great first day back children. Take care!
