New Daily Teams Meetings

Class pages will no longer be updated by the class teachers. This is due to our new learning expectations, which include a daily Microsoft Teams meeting, 08:45-09:00, to register home learners and prepare them for the day of learning.

To access Teams you need to be logged in to your school email account (Office 365) - for help, click here. Or see the child friendly video for using Office 365 - Outlook email  here.

For help using Teams, click here. Or see the child friendly video tutorial for using Teams  here.

Assessment work

You no longer need to email in evidence of your work on a daily basis - this has been replaced with set pieces of work that will be identified for assessment. Your teachers will tell you which ones these are in the morning Teams meeting and they will be clearly identified on the daily planning.

To send in your assessment piece, you will usually send an email (ideally from your own school account) with a photo or uploaded attachment of the work. Sometimes, assessment may just be to complete a Microsoft Form or to complete a quiz.

Your teachers would love to respond to all of your emails but that is not possible now. If you do not get a response, and you think you should have (i.e. you asked a question that needs a response), please resend the email with, ‘PLEASE RESPOND’ in the email subject line, this will act as a reminder in such busy times.

Teachers will select samples of work from those entered, to build exemplars of work against the set success criteria at differentiated levels (working towards age related expectations, working at expectations and working at greater depth) to reflect a normal classroom. The work selected will remain anonymous and will focus only on the good examples of meeting the success criteria. Pupils (and families) will then be given the opportunity to self-assess their work against the exemplars to judge how well they are doing and pick out some targets to work on in their next assessment piece.

Enjoy the new learning format.

**PE NOTICE**

On Wednesday, Mr Quick and Mr Haggart will be hosting a LIVE EXERCISE CLASS 10.55-11.30. Look out for your Teams invite!

**notice about our teams meeting thursday at 11***

Please read the message below in preparation for our Teams meeting tomorrow (Thursday) at 11am:

When your teacher invites you to a session it will appear in the relevant channel on Teams. Try to make sure that you are in a quiet, shared, comfortable environment, free from distractions for your session.

  • Please avoid being in your bedrooms unless supervised by an adult.
  • If you can’t make the “live” session, then try to let us know before the session begins.
  • Just like in the classroom, we ask you not to talk at the same time as the teacher. So, keep your microphone on mute unless you want to ask a question or say something in which case hold up your hand just like you would in school. When you have got permission to speak, say what you want to say, and then mute your microphone again.
  •  Keep your camera on (if you can) because we would like to see your lovely faces and create a virtual classroom.
  •  You must not record or take photos of teachers or students during video conferencing sessions, and you must not share lessons publicly. Remember our online safety rules – no sharing of personal information.
  •  We must all follow these rules to keep you safe and to make sure things run smoothly. Just like in school, always remember the Chesswood Bright Sparks Code – show courtesy, care and kindness at all times.

Hi gang,

Today's lovely work...

Some super science from Tommy! Beautiful presentation, as ever, Tommy!

Brilliant Banksy art from Halle.

Very yummy-looking no-yeast rolls from Ela. Nom nom.

Look at this spectacular painting from Elisha! She's in school, but this still deserves a celebration. Elisha has been working on this from home for the last two weeks.

Today's window from Window Swap comes from Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia - why don't you look up the city on Google Earth, to see where it is and how far away from us?

Towering skyscrapers and glittering buildings - but what can you see in the distance?

tuesday 19th january 2021

Helloooooo!

Today's window comes from River Road, Florida in the USA - why don't you look up the town on Google Earth, to see where it is and how far away from us?

What a calming view...

Now for today's learning...

Super handwriting from Cameron!

Lovely report on Pigeon Impossible by Buddy.

Excellent Rumblestar work from Hope.

monday 18th january 2021

Hello, lovely people,

I've decided to start sharing something rather marvellous with you each day. The picture below is taken from a website called 'window-swap', which displays views from people's windows from around the world. One of today's views comes from Wellington, New Zealand - why don't you look up the town on Google Earth, to see where it is and how far away from us?

Isn't this gorgeous? It's a bit like travelling the world, but from our computer screens.

Now, for today's 3 examples of lovely learning:

Excellent Nasty Writing from Elliot, today. You're smashing the passive tense!

Nastia's been keeping up with her Current Affairs, making a very good point about fake news headlines.

Sonny's doing a super job with the Maths and reasoning !

friday 15th january 2021

Hellooooooo everyone!

It was so lovely to see your cheeky faces today, those of you who could get into our Teams call. I know there were several technical issues and I lost a few of you at some point, but I was able to see who was trying to get in and I'm very proud and pleased with you for making that effort. Try to make sure you wait for ME to start the meeting next time, so all you'll have to do is click on 'Join in'. One of the problems today was that there were several Teams calls happening at once, so it was a bit of a mess! Never mind. This week was more of a practice - next week, we'll smash it!

Right, here are the latest lovely examples of work:

Excellent spelling practice from Cameron - 20 out of 20! Super work!

Fantastic letter from Hope - what great aspirations to have!

More lovely spelling practice - this time from Nastia. Fantastic work!

thursday 14th january 2021

Hi 6RW,

Quick message just to say that I've been in class all day and then had a meeting after school, so I haven't had a chance to update this page yet - I'll do that tomorrow. Our meeting was about our Microsoft Teams chat (it's like Zoom) tomorrow at 11am. I hope you've all seen the communication that went out to parents, so you'll be ready to join us in class tomorrow - can't wait to see your cheeky faces. I've already sent you a class message on Teams, so check it when you can.

It'll be our first one, so all kinds of things could go wrong but don't worry, we can only try! We'll get better at it as we go.

Bye for now,

Mrs R-W x

wednesday 13th january 2021

Well hellooooooooooooo, 6RW,

How are we all? Busy beavering away, I hope.

It's been very quiet on the email front so far today, so do check in with me, let me know how you're doing and what you're doing.

Elliot's done a fantastic job of drawing Utterly Thankless from Rumblestar: her wild blonde hair; blue dungarees; gold stars on her cheeks; and spanners in her pockets. Exactly how I imagine her - well done, Elliot!

Jasper has been making a tomato-based pasta sauce. Watch his video below to see another 6RW chef in action!

Hope's lovely letter to her future self for the time capsule - great work, Hope! (Sorry this is wonky - it's not doing what it's told. A bit like Herbie when I'm at home).

DON'T FORGET: even if your work doesn't get displayed on here, I still want to see it!

tuesday 12th january 2021

Good afternoon, monkeys!

Before I introduce some excellent examples of home learning, I wanted to point you in the direction of the new class text for our year group, which is Rumblestar by Abi Elphinstone. It's a brilliant book, full of adventure, loads of funny characters, cloud giants, talking hot-air balloons, vegan trolls who live in gigantic trees and lots, lots more. PLUS, it's read by meeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! So please watch the videos we put up each day - it's important that you are exposed to as many lovely books and writers as possible, ESPECIALLY if you're not reading too much of your own books.

Okay, let's get on with things. Well done to those of you who have been emailing me - it's been so nice to hear from you and have a 'chat'. Keep it up - I want to hear from all of you every day. Keep sending me your home learning too!

Right, here are our 3 pieces of work today:

Super work, Sara. Hi to you, too! (I've tried 4 times to put this up the right way, but it keeps doing its own thing. Grrr!)

Hi from Sonny, too! Great job!

Elliot's been very busy, but I especially like his spelling practice. Very creative!

That's it for now, everyone. See you tomorrow. x

EARLIER TODAY

Good morning, monkeys!

Just a quick hello and to wish our Willow a HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAYYYYYYYY!!!!

Happy birthday, Willow!

That's all for now. I'll be back later, hopefully with another 3 super examples of your awesome learning.

Don't forget to stay in touch!

Monday 11th January 2021

Hi 6RW! *waves enthusiastically*

I hope you've all had a good day and been super busy. Don't forget to email me to stay in touch so I know you're okay, and to send me in your home learning. I'll always reply to your emails, even if I can't do that as quickly as I'd like.

Soooooo... let's get started. Here are our first three awesome pieces of work from Buddy, Halle and Jasper.

Last week, Buddy opened his restaurant (sort of) and made these yummy-looking fajitas! Great work, Chef!

Halle made a Victoria Sponge that looks so delicious, I think she might have to enter Junior Bake Off. I'll be your Chief Taster, Halle!

Jasper has drawn an EXCELLENT illustration of Peter Parker/Spiderman! I love the detail on the eye, Jasper, super job!

SUNDAY 10TH JANUARY 2021

Hello my lovelies,

I hope you're all well and happy. It's all a bit weird, isn't it? I miss your little faces in school, but don't worry, we'll be back together again soon! And I'll be nagging you about your homework and your reading and remembering your glasses/water bottle/reading book/jumper and you'll wish you were at home again!

Anyway, this is just a little welcome message. You should all have your email addresses now so stay in touch with me, send me in your home learning, and KEEP READING! I'm in class every day, but I'll be checking and replying to emails and updating our class page each day, so if I don't reply immediately, be patient - I WILL get back to you.

In the meantime, here's a little video of me and you-know-who... xx

Mrs R-W :)

Hello and welcome to Year 6! We are looking forward to meeting you all and welcoming you to life at the top of Chesswood – it’s a great adventure!

Firstly, we would love to find out more about you, so we have some super home learning tasks for you to do. Have a look at our Year 6 PowerPoint presentation to find out more.

Once you have completed your postcard task, email them to your class teacher with any other work or information you would like us to know.

In Year 6, we are all keen readers and we love to share our book recommendations with each other. Check out our reading list to find out loads of brilliant books for you to lose yourself in. We would love it if you can read at least 2 books from the lists over summer. This is a great way to start the year feeling confident (and earn yourself some extra house points too)!

That’s all for now – we can’t wait to see you in September. Until then, stay safe, have a great summer, and we’ll see you soon.
