New Daily Teams Meetings

Class pages will no longer be updated by the class teachers. This is due to our new learning expectations, which include a daily Microsoft Teams meeting, 08:45-09:00, to register home learners and prepare them for the day of learning.

To access Teams you need to be logged in to your school email account (Office 365) - for help, click here. Or see the child friendly video for using Office 365 - Outlook email  here.

For help using Teams, click here. Or see the child friendly video tutorial for using Teams  here.

Assessment work

You no longer need to email in evidence of your work on a daily basis - this has been replaced with set pieces of work that will be identified for assessment. Your teachers will tell you which ones these are in the morning Teams meeting and they will be clearly identified on the daily planning.

To send in your assessment piece, you will usually send an email (ideally from your own school account) with a photo or uploaded attachment of the work. Sometimes, assessment may just be to complete a Microsoft Form or to complete a quiz.

Your teachers would love to respond to all of your emails but that is not possible now. If you do not get a response, and you think you should have (i.e. you asked a question that needs a response), please resend the email with, ‘PLEASE RESPOND’ in the email subject line, this will act as a reminder in such busy times.

Teachers will select samples of work from those entered, to build exemplars of work against the set success criteria at differentiated levels (working towards age related expectations, working at expectations and working at greater depth) to reflect a normal classroom. The work selected will remain anonymous and will focus only on the good examples of meeting the success criteria. Pupils (and families) will then be given the opportunity to self-assess their work against the exemplars to judge how well they are doing and pick out some targets to work on in their next assessment piece.

Enjoy the new learning format.

Good Morning 4CR.  Its Friday Yay, you have made it to the end of another lockdown week.  You should be really proud of yourselves for all the work you have been completing to keep up with your education.  I know I am proud of each and every one of you :-)

Today is Reading celebration day so along with the pictures of the Home Learning work you have been completing I have put up your targets and your word counts.  I am pleased to announce that over night we got our 3rd Millionaire class reader

Keep up the great work 4CR.  I look forward to receiving the last of your work for this week before you have a well deserved fun filled weekend without school work.

Catch up Monday

50Hps for Jason who read The Eagle perfectly off by heart.  Well done :-)

Abbie has been working really hard on her Geography and English poem.  Both are really great pieces of work.  You have definitely gone The Extra Mile to Be the Best you can Be.

Check out Harry's legend set in Durrington.  Weirdly enough there did used to be a huge smelly pond in the park next to his house so is this a legend or fact ????????

Excellent Geography work Jakub.  You identified all the counties in the South East of England fantastically.

Ayla was lovely enough to send not only her amazing Science work but also a picture of the crushed up crackers having been though our experimental digestive system of the teeth. Oesophagus and Stomach.  Yuck!!  Looks like you had fun and learnt lots of Science too.

thursday 21st january 2021

Hi 4CR Home Learners.  It was so lovely to see all of you on our Teams call yesterday.  If you were one of the 5 children unable to join in, we would all love to see you next week on Wednesday at 11.45am :-) just let me know if you are having any difficulties with the technology and I will try to sort it out this end.

Well I hope you are all ready for another day of Home Learning.  It's Science experiment day today.  All you need is a zip lock bag (or bag you can tie tightly) some water, orange juice and a cream cracker.  The children in class did it yesterday and they really enjoyed re-creating the digestive system.  I would love to see some photos of you having a go too.

More amazing work was sent in yesterday.  I am really pleased that majority of you are sending in your work daily.  If you are doing the work but forgetting to send it in then please make a special effort to take photos today and email me your Home Learning adventures.  Especially EJ, Jess, Finn and Harry.        Hellooooooo, where are yooooou ????         I know I have been able to see you on our Teams call but I need an email to prove that wasn't your Doppelganger and the real you is still there completing the work set :-)

Reading praise day tomorrow.  I will be moving you all up the tree if you have been doing quizzes and celebrating how amazing you are with a picture on this class page so make sure you check in tomorrow.

Have a lovely day and enjoy celebrating the work below.

Amazing Geography Abbie.  I can see you know a lot about Wales.  I have learnt some new fact too so thank you for that.

Check out this amazing work from Paige.  She is working incredibly hard on her Home learning.  Well done Paige.  What a Superstar.

Well done Jakub.  Keep up the great PE routine.  From what I hear you are exercising regularly which is fantastic for keeping healthy and will definitely help with focus and completing your Home learning :-)

Wednesday 20th January 2021

Good Morning 4CR.  It's the middle of the week and it's Teams Meeting Day.  Yay. 11.45am.  I really hope all you Home Learners join us so we can all be together as a class again. Remember to bring a piece of work you are most proud of and a pen and paper so we can do some activities together.

I have changed the writing below the Art from yesterday.  Did you guess the names of the artists?  It was Jason, Ayla and Natalia.  I have posted some more amazing work from yesterday below so make sure you take a look.

Have a great day Home Learning.

See you all soon

As you can see Abbie has started off the week extremely creatively. Fantastic Art work and Origami Abbie.  Well done.

Ayla has been doing some amazing Science.  Look at the fantastic T shirt she created for her teddy of the digestive system.  She completed all the written work too so this is definitely Ayla going the Extra Mile.

Jake has also gone The Extra Mile to type up his incredible legend so he could share it with you.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Check out this Maths work from two of our class Mathematicians.  Lola has worked really hard at her division on a numberline whilst Jason has been pushing himself to complete the challenges of the extension work.  Well done both of you.  Amazing work.

tuesday 19th january 2021

Hi all.  A huge thank you to everyone who sent me in their work yesterday.  I had lots of choices to put up on the website today.  Although I cannot put all your work up I will try to put up at least 1 piece from every child who sends work in if you have gone The Extra Mile to Be the Best You Can Be.  I know it can be really tricky to concentrate at home with lots of distractions around you so all I can ask is that you try your hardest, take regular little brain breaks, complete as much work as you can then send me some examples by email.

Don't forget to keep up with the reading and AR quizzes too.  So far Lois, Jess, Ayla, Finn and Jake have all met their targets (Let me know what colour star you would like when you send me in your work and I will put it on the Year 4 Remarkable Readers display)  and Lola is at 83.7% of her target so really close.   I must also give a huge shout out to Jake who is at 931.436 words.  Will he be our next Millionaire Reader??????

Have a great day.  Remember tomorrow is our Teams Meeting Day.  11.45am.  I can't wait to see you all again.

Jason                             Ayla                                                                Natalia

Everybody's legends I read were totally fantastic but as they came in lots of different parts it made it difficult to display them here on our class page.  This is Abbie's.  It is clear she has worked incredibly hard and has written it up in her neatest handwriting.  She has really used her imagination to twist the original George and the Dragon legend.  I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did.

Excellent Guided Reading Natalia.  Full sentence, clear answers.  Top work.

Check out Jake aka Spiderman reading The Eagle by Tennison.  Not something you see everyday.  Excellent recital Jake clearly spoken with great action.  Make sure you put up those 50Hps

Monday 18th January 2021

Good Morning 4CR.  I hope you have had a lovely weekend and are all rested and ready to start a new week of learning.  It was so lovely to see you all on Friday.  I miss having you in the classroom so it was great to be able to see your smiling faces, even if it was only for 30 minutes.  I am really looking forward to seeing you all again on Wednesday for our next Teams Meeting.  More details to come.

Today is Art and History alongside the usual Maths, Writing, Spelling and Reading.  It's also Top Ten day so take a look at the pictures below to see if you are in the top spot for 30HPs.  Numbots are on there too so keep up the good work Numbotters.

Keep sending in that work so I can publish it here on our class page.  Miss Butler and I are also preparing your legends to be uploaded so make sure you keep popping back to this page everyday.

Have fun learning

Friday 15th January 2021

Good Morning 4CR.  You have made it to the end of the week.  Unfortunately I wasn't sent much work yesterday (Just 3 of you :-( ) but that doesn't mean we don't have reason to celebrate both the work that was sent in and our achievements as a class.   Take a look at our reading tree.  We have another Millionaire - Yay well done Jess - and Lois and Jake are steadily creeping up to the top.  There are 5 of you on 200,000 + and at least 7 of you on the 100,000 + ready to move up to the red 200,000 leaves.  You are all amazing and doing so well.  Keep it up and let me know if you are struggling to find books to read.  I can always get a pack together for you at the front reception which can be picked up and you can drop them back and swap them for others when you have read them and passed the quizzes.

I am really looking forward to our teams call today so if you do not know anything about this, check you Chesswood emails.  The password is the same as your AR Password and your email address is your first name + the first letter of your surname @ chesswood.org.uk.  Hope to see as many of you there as possible at 11.45.  Be patient as this is the first time we have tried this so there may be a few technical problems at first but we will get them sorted.  Bring a paper and pencil + your Home Learning book if you would like to share anything with the class.

Have a great day learning

Jake sends me in work every day.  Here is just one of the great pieces of Maths work he has completed this week.  Keep it up Jake I really enjoy seeing and sharing your work.  Watch this space for his amazing legend next week.  I am going to try to put up as many as I can.

And well done Abbie and Ayla for this brilliant Science work.  I can see you both remember lots about teeth and their function.  I am excited to share Ayla's legend next week too and more of Abbie's brilliant Home Learning work.

Thursday 14th January 2021

Good Morning from in class 4CR to all 4CR Home Learners.  I hope you had a lovely day learning yesterday.  The picture above was taken after our DT lesson in the afternoon.  We all had great fun making origami Ninja Stars and dogs.

Today you get to write your legend resolution.  I am still loving all the legends that are being sent in and can't wait to catch up on the adventures of the characters you have created.  In Ayla's legend the dragon has become a royal and has replaced the princess!! In Jake's legend the knights had to compete in a contest to find out which knight was the best and would therefore face the dragon whilst in Jason's legend the dragon was wandering freely around the town causing havoc.  They are all different and all fantastic so keep sending them in.

Unfortunately, there are still 9 of you I haven't heard from at all.   A teacher without their whole class is a little broken.  I need you to make it whole again by sending in your work or dropping me an email if you haven't done so since lockdown.

As for the rest of my in-class learners and those who regularly send me work.  Keep it up.  You are amazing.

Check out Abbie's Origami and Geography.  Did you know that England had a desert?  I didn't so thank you Abbie for teaching me something new.

Mahera has sent in an excellent Knight Profile.  She has used some fantastic adjectives to describe her and help paint a picture in the mind of the reader.

Wednesday 13th January 2021

Hello to all you Home Learners out there.  I hope you are all well and are enjoying the work that has been set.  I have been particularly impressed with the amazing legends that are being written.  They are all very different from each other and you have all used your imagination to give a unique twist to the original story of George and the Dragon.  I can't wait to read all about your hero and your battle today so make sure you send them in when you have finished writing them.  You also have dance party computing and Geography to look forward to once you finish your Maths and English and don't forget to keep up your Reading, TTRockstars and IXL.

As I said in my little video, the children in class are doing exactly the same as you so it would be great if you could complete as much of the work as possible so when you come back into school we have all had the same learning.  Although some of you may require support, the work has been designed for you to be able to complete a lot of it independently so please have a go yourself and remember I am always here to support you if your parents are really busy.  Just send me an email and I will try to answer it as quickly as I can.

Make sure you send more in today so I can try to get work up from all of you over the course of the week.  Have a lovely day learning.

Here is some work from our incredible 4CR Home Learners

Natalia's brilliant Science work                              Jason's amazing Maths

  Abbie's fantastic written methods

And here is some work from our incredible in class learners.  They thoroughly enjoyed the art lesson yesterday afternoon.  I hope you did too.

Tuesday 12th January 2021

Day 2 week 2.  I'm really proud of you all.  So much amazing work being sent in.  Keep it ip 4CR. So far I have heard from Ayla, Bara, EJ, Jake, Jason and Natalia whilst in class I get to see amazing work from Riley, Lois, Katerina, Grace, Poppy, Jasmine, Nick, Kamile, Savannah and Taylor.  I would really love to see some work from the rest of you if you can.  Just a quick photo taken on a phone and emailed to cread@chesswood.w-sussex.sch.uk.  Hopefully today will be the day the rest of you all send in your best pieces of work.  I will choose 4 or 5 to put on the website so check again in the morning.

Have a great day learning.  Here are a few pieces of work from last week and yesterday.

Check out these amazing fox drawings by Ayla.  The colour blending is fantastic.

Bara has been working incredibly hard on his maths whilst Jake has worked out all the homophones.

Jason has some excellent ideas for his legend.  I really like the idea of the dragon being tamed rather than killed.  The poor dragon can't really help being a moody, firebreathing, ferocious creature.  I wonder what it would be like to see a tame one walking around the town.  Just don't let him sneeze!!

This is Natalia's interpretation of music created in the style of Kandinsky.  She has used the colour of loud sharp trumpets (yellow) as well as the sound of the alive glowing deep tuba (red) and calm circles with angry triangles.  I wonder what piece of music she was listening to?

Monday 11th January 2021

Good Morning 4CR.  I hope you are all well and looking forward to week 2 of Home Learning.  If you watch my little video below, hopefully I will answer a lot of the questions you have about Home learning and how it works.  If you still need to ask me something then please email me and I will get back to you as soon as I can.  Have a lovely day.

Yes you are allowed to laugh at the fact the video has paused at me looking a bit like Wallace from Wallace and Gromit :-)

Below are the top tens for last week.  Make sure you add the housepoints to your Home Learning Tally.

Meet the teacher - September 2020

Due to COVID restrictions, unfortunately, teachers cannot meet with parents and carers this year. Therefore, I have produced this video to introduce myself, give a brief explanation about what we are doing in Year 4 and to tell you how you can support your child or contact me if you have any queries.

Good Morning new 4CR!

Welcome to Year 4. Watch the transition day video below to learn a little more about myself. You'll also find out about Year 4 and get the answers to some of your questions.

Have a go at the Year 3 Daily Learning for our Year 4 Transition Tasks -  I can't wait to see your postcards so don't forget to email them to me here:

cread@chesswood.w-sussex.sch.uk

If you have any other questions for me,  you can also email those. I am so excited about spending my first Year in Year 4 with you and really can't wait to meet you in September!

Have a wonderful summer and don't forget to read, read, read!
