New Daily Teams Meetings
Class pages will no longer be updated by the class teachers. This is due to our new learning expectations, which include a daily Microsoft Teams meeting, 08:45-09:00, to register home learners and prepare them for the day of learning.
To access Teams you need to be logged in to your school email account (Office 365) - for help, click here. Or see the child friendly video for using Office 365 - Outlook email here.
For help using Teams, click here. Or see the child friendly video tutorial for using Teams here.
Assessment work
You no longer need to email in evidence of your work on a daily basis - this has been replaced with set pieces of work that will be identified for assessment. Your teachers will tell you which ones these are in the morning Teams meeting and they will be clearly identified on the daily planning.
To send in your assessment piece, you will usually send an email (ideally from your own school account) with a photo or uploaded attachment of the work. Sometimes, assessment may just be to complete a Microsoft Form or to complete a quiz.
Your teachers would love to respond to all of your emails but that is not possible now. If you do not get a response, and you think you should have (i.e. you asked a question that needs a response), please resend the email with, ‘PLEASE RESPOND’ in the email subject line, this will act as a reminder in such busy times.
Teachers will select samples of work from those entered, to build exemplars of work against the set success criteria at differentiated levels (working towards age related expectations, working at expectations and working at greater depth) to reflect a normal classroom. The work selected will remain anonymous and will focus only on the good examples of meeting the success criteria. Pupils (and families) will then be given the opportunity to self-assess their work against the exemplars to judge how well they are doing and pick out some targets to work on in their next assessment piece.
Enjoy the new learning format.

Friday 22nd January
Good morning, 4EV! It's Friday! One last push of home learning until we all get a lovely, relaxing weekend! First of all, let's have a look at those children who have now met their reading targets! A huge well done to you!
~*~ Sienna, Casper and Matilda ~*~
This week, I know you've all been doing a fantastic job at getting your head around division! I've had some feedback that the part-part-whole models were a bit tricky, particularly question 8 on yesterday's home learning. I thought it might be useful to post me working out the first part of the question. I hope this helps!
Next, let's have a look at some of the amazing pictures and videos you've been sending me in!
Cleo sent in an adorable picture of cat, Ruby!
Sophie has memorised Tennyson's 'The Eagle' now - fantastic!
Euan has been completing some incredible work on division!

Don't forget to email me with an example of a piece of Maths and a piece of English work each week.
Check out Sienna's fabulous recital of Tennyson's 'The Eagle' - I love the actions to go with it!

Hi everyone! What a rainy day! Hopefully, the weather will get better later and you'll be able to go on a nice walk. I've got a few reminders for tomorrow: it's Top 10s AND we've got another Teams meeting at 11.45! I'm so pleased so many of you came to the last one and I'm looking forward to seeing you all again! I think we'll have less technical difficulties this time so we'll have more talking time!
Now let's have a look at some of the fantastic pictures you've been sending me in!
Have a look at Alfie's legend - what a fantastic storyline!
Check out Ava's Maths - I LOVE the fact she's reasoning her questions!

Monday 18th January
Good morning, 4EV! Welcome to another week of home learning! We've got some great tasks lined up for you this week. I particularly like the poetry unit coming up because you get to write a poem about an animal! I wrote a poem about my cat, Lumi, which you'll see in your Writing booklet later on in the week. Here's a picture of Lumi (a bit more awake than in the video I posted!) staring at some birds in the neighbour's garden. He's too young to go outside at the moment but I can tell that he really wants to!
Speaking of cats, here is Belle and her adorable cat, Buttercup!
Also, Sophie's completed her Dance Party coding already! She made a fab video but unfortunately Youtube won't let me upload it, so here's a screenshot!
And finally, check out this part of Sienna's legend - what fantastic vocabulary choices!
Friday 15th January
Hi, 4EV! Today is a very exciting day because we have a Teams meeting with the class at 11.45 am! We'll be able to have a catch up and play some games so I'm very excited! You should all have an invite in your school emails so make sure you accept.
Now let's have a look at some of the amazing pictures you sent me in yesterday!
It was Sophie's birthday on Sunday (happy birthday!) and she made some outfits for her Barbies!
Zoe made a fantastic model of teeth out of bread for Science!
Cleo having been working hard on her legend based on St. George and the Dragon! I love the cameo from her cat too!
Thursday 14th January
Good morning, 4EV! Another rainy day but at least you have lots of exciting home learning tasks to be getting on with! Have you managed to watch the Writing and Maths videos to support you with your home learning? I think they are so useful!
Remember last half term when we absolutely smashed our reading targets? Almost the whole entire class met their target! Let's do that again this half term! You can still give yourself 20 HP for every 20% of your reading target achieved. This week you should be aiming to achieve about 40% of your target. Some have you have already met your target, which is phenomenal! A MASSIVE well done to these children:
~*~ Robert, Sophie, Mila, Ava and Belle ~*~
And here are some of the awesome pictures you sent me in yesterday:
Matilda sent over a picture of her cat and dog, Peewee and Stitch - SO cute!
Dylan has been learning all about nature in Lancing Ring - amazing!
Sophie has done some fantastic research about our county, West Sussex!
Wednesday 13th January
Hi 4EV! I hope you're all having a great day! At the moment, I'm usually out of class planning and uploading your home learning but this morning I was teaching Miss Gilmour's bubble. It was lovely to be back in the classroom - I do miss teaching you all!
Remember, I'll be posting our weekly Top 10s every Wednesday so here is this week's! It's still 20 HP for getting on the leaderboard and 30 HP for getting to number one. Well done if you made it this week!
How has your learning been going today? I've got some fantastic examples to show you from yesterday:
What an incredible recap of teeth from Matilda!
Layla's doing a great job practising her multiplication methods.
Belle is well on her way to becoming an origami master!
Tuesday 12th January

MEET THE TEACHER - SEPTEMBER 2020
Due to COVID restrictions, unfortunately, we cannot meet with parents this year. Therefore, we have produced this video to introduce ourselves, give a brief update on how the start of term has gone and tell you how you can support your child or contact us if you have any queries.
Good morning to the new 4EV and welcome to Year 4! My name is Miss Varley and I'm so excited to be your new teacher!
Watch the transition day video below to learn a little more about me. I've also answered all of the questions that you have sent me in.
Sorry the video became rather long! Here are some of the key points:
- Don't worry about coming back! It's normal to feel nervous but you will see your friends again and you will be safe!
- Special Summer Challenge: do 1 hour of IXL English, 1 hour of IXL Maths, quiz on a book on the first week back and get 2,000 coins on TTRockstars for 200 HP in total! (You will also get more housepoints on top of that for getting on the Top 10s!)
Have a go at the Year 3 Daily Learning for our Year 4 Transition Tasks - I can't wait to see your postcards so don't forget to email them to me here:
evarley@chesswood.w-sussex.sch.uk
If you have any other questions for me, you can also email those.
I really can't wait to meet you in September!
Have a wonderful summer and don't forget to read, read, read!
