If you've found any new hobbies do please let me know.

Lenney's also found time to build a flower bed with his Dad.

Great work Lenney and please let us know what it looks like when you're done!

Thomas has working very hard on his computer programming in Scratch and has designed this excellent Prime Number programme.

Terrific work Thomas!

And last but by no means least, Maya's been making cats with hats out of foam clay.

All the very best everybody, stay safe and take care,

Mr Hicks

tuesday 31st march 2020

Hi All and I hope everyone's keeping safe.

What a beautiful day it's been!

Please do keep in touch either just to let me know how you're getting on or to send me some more examples of your fantastic home-learning!

I was particularly pleased to be sent the following two fantastic pieces of Science research into how the eye works.

First-up is Freya:

What an excellent labelled diagram!

Next-up is Tilly:

Terrific work Tilly!

Freya also sent in this amazing 100 word story.

Keep up the great work Freya!

Maya's also sent in some work. No thanks to Cloudy (her cat) apparently.

25HP!

Well done Maya!

Daniel really enjoyed the Pidgeon Impossible video and task although he admitted that Pablo (pictured below) did help him with it.

All the best and take care,

Mr Hicks

monday 30th march 2020

Hi All and I hope that you are all well and that all had a lovely weekend.

Repeat: It's been lovely hearing from so many of you and many thanks for all the work and pics that you're sending in. Do please also send me any messages that you want me to post; either shout-outs, hellos or, 'Have you seen this?' type stuff. If you've set yourself a project or a challenge let us know and perhaps we could join in too! Also, if you've found any particularly fun things to do - learning or otherwise - please let us know so we can try them out as well.

First up today is Archie who's made this first wonderful World War 2 fighter plane out of KNEX.

Great job Archie! 25HP!

Caleb's sent in some of his daily Maths work.

Well done Caleb! 25HP!

Tilly's sent in another fantastic 100 word story.

If you've written one please send it in because I'd really like to read it.

Here's Tilly's!

"I'm trying to hold on," he shouted...

Lila sped away to the nearest police station. "Help! Please, my friend Alexei is in danger!" PC Lolaney laughed, shook his head and continued to eat his jam doughnut. But PC Jolly stepped forward, looking worried. "Where did you leave him?" she asked. "This way! Quickly, follow me!"

Ten minutes later, Lila skidded to a halt at the horribly familiar cliff side. PC Jolly panted."Are we here yet?" As Lila was as out of breath as the police officer, she stumbled to the edge where she left Alexei. But he wasn't there...

Great work Tilly! 25HP!

Skylar's sent in this pic but wanted me to make clear that her Dad hasn't been stockpiling but that the 24 roll pack was the only one left in the shop!

Thanks for getting in touch Skylar!

And finally here's Thomas who's sent in some work and a pic of where he's working at home.

50HP Thomas!

All the best and please keep in touch.

Mr Hicks

Friday 27TH March 2020

Hi All and I hope all's well!

It's been lovely hearing from so many of you and many thanks for all the work and pics that you're sending in.

I've found two things that I think are superb: the first is that Minecraft Education Edition have made lots of their resources free for the duration of the pandemic and I'd strongly recommend that you take a look; and the second is a website called, 'Bourne To Code', that any budding computer programmers should probably take a look at (both of these are keeping my kids pleasingly occupied!).

If I haven't heard from you please just send me a quick email (thicks@chesswood.w-sussex.sch.uk) to let me that you're okay and how you're getting on.

Well done for getting through our first week of home learning!

All the best and I hope you have a lovely weekend!

First up today is this fantastic effort from Freya who wanted to do something to cheer everyone up as they walked past and so she made this wonderful rainbow.

What a caring, positive and uplifting idea! 50HP!

Next up is an excellent piece of writing sent in by Thomas.

If you've got any completed work please take a pic and send it in.

Great work Thomas! 50HP!

Apparently Maya's cat is being a bit of weirdo now that Maya's around a lot more of the time.

Meet Cloudy!

And last but by no means least here's Daniel watering his plants on what looks like a stunningly, beautiful afternoon.

All the best and please take care,

Mr Hicks

IMPORTANT UPDATE

Hello children.  You should all be familiar with your own individual school email accounts – you have practised using these at school during Computing sessions.  You may not remember how to use these – Mr Miller has written some helpful guidance for you.  Click the image below to see the guidance.  Following this guidance, please ensure by the end of the week (Friday 3.15pm) you have emailed your class teacher – even if it’s just to say hello.  This will help tell us who is reading these pages and knows how to use their email.  Emails are a great way for you to speak with other children and your teacher.  If you get stuck, use the year group support email on the Year X Daily Learning page.  We look forward to hearing from you!

THURSday 26th March 2020

Hi All and I hope all's well,

I'm starting to hear from many more of you (which is absolutely fantastic!) and so I've got loads of brilliant photos and work to share with you today. If you're having any problems either accessing our online work and resources or accessing an email account to keep in touch please let me know and we'll do what we can to help you out. Repeat keep sending me all of your amazing work and photos and please if I haven't heard from you send me an email just to let me know that you're okay (thicks@chesswood.w-sussex.sch.uk).

Right so here goes!

First up here are Ellen and Grace who have been using Facetime to work together.

What a great idea!

Please send me more photos of where and how you're working.

Next up is Jonah. Jonah's Mum assures me that Jonah's usually up and dressed before he starts work but that today Jo Wicks had tired him out so much that he didn't have the energy left to change out of his PJs.

Jonah has also kindly sent us in a screen grab of an online virtual tour that he really enjoyed.

Here's the link - https://naturalhistory2.si.edu/vt3/NMNH/z_tour-022.html - if you want to try it out.

Many thanks Jonah!

Ishaan sent in some fantastic Evacuee writing.

Great work Ishaan!

And Archie did lots of delicious maths yesterday!

Amazing work!

And Niamh also sent in a wonderful piece of writing. Terrific work!

Daniel sent in some great photos of him working on the Science investigation although hard as he tried he couldn't get the light to go round corners. Any suggestions anyone?

Tilly sent us in lots of excellent examples of how hard she's working!

Magnificent Tilly!

And finally here's Niamh practising the piano!

All the best, take care, please keep in touch and keep sending me all your wonderful photos and pieces of work. Remember 25HP for everything that's get posted!

See you soon!

Mr Hicks

wednesday 25th March 2020

Hi All and I hope all's well,

I've got to start with this lovely picture of Daniel working from home and I particularly like the message that his Mum sent in with it - see the caption. So if you've got any pics of where/how you're working at home or of the work you're doing please send them in and I'll post them as soon as I can. 25HP for every picture that gets posted!!!

Daniel’s already told me he wishes he was at school as they don’t get cross with him there! I responded well maybe you don’t get up in the middle of maths to chase the dog and eat a packet of crisps ! Maybe he does ?!  (Daniel's Mum)

I love this suggested activity and instruction sheet from Poppy!

If you give it a go please send in a picture of what you've made.

Here are some examples of work that you've completed so far. Please send in more.

Niamh's Maths from home. Great work Niamh!

A terrific WW2 poster made by Aoife and Jamie (with a little help from Niamh); if you've made a takeaway task at home please take a picture and send it in to me.

Niamh's Homework Book front cover

I also think that my drawing is starting to improve. If anyone's got any top tips please let me know!

Day 1
Day 2
Day 3

All the best and please remember that I'd really like to hear from you all!

Take care,

Mr Hicks

Tuesday 24th March 2020

If you're reading this could you please all send me an email just to let me know how you're getting on and how you're finding the first couple of days of learning at home (thicks@chesswood.w-sussex.sch.uk). Also please send me any examples of your work or any messages that you want me to post so that we can all keep in touch. Please see below for some fantastic examples of what we've been sent so far. I'll probably be posting stuff up around the same time each day (2 to 2:30pm).

All the best and please remember I'd really like to hear from you!

Take care,

Mr Hicks

First up, this is Tilly's fantastic fractions, decimals and percentages poster. Well done Tilly!

Tilly also sent in this powerful picture based on our reading text, 'From The Lighthouse'.

Poppy's sent us in a couple of great photos of her, 'Good SATS Guide for Cats'. Brilliant work Poppy!

And last, but by no means least, here's Kara King's superb Art that she did in class with us yesterday.
Wonderful work Kara!

MONday 23th March 2020

Hi All,

Thought you might want to see these. Maya and Archie have already produced excellent customised covers for their home learning books. Please send in any pics you've got of yours!

All the best,

Mr Hicks

Hi All and I hope all's well,

My email address is - thicks@chesswood.w-sussex.sch.uk - and if you need support with work (I'm in class and so won't necessarily be able to get back to you very quickly) please email - y6support@chesswood.w-sussex.sch.uk

I've only heard from Skylar (sending in a great video which I'll try to post later) and Morgan (sending me possibly the shortest email in the world 'yo') so far; please let me know how you are and how you're getting on and I'll try to get back to you as quickly as I can.

Have you seen the fantastic videos on the website from Mrs RW, Miss Pye and Miss Johnson? I think they're brilliant so please go and check them out.

Attached below is the amazing poster Grace, Tilly, Ellen and Skylar made on Friday.

All the best and I hope to hear from you soon!
