MUST - Spelling

Must homework is essential to complete each and every week.

Homework is provided in three tiers - each child will only receive the tier that is appropriate to them. Generic wording is included below for information only, it may change over time. Also, each child's assigned tier may change over time, for example, if spelling test results improve in class, therefore, it is essential that each child opens their assignment to check if there is a different message each week - it also helps us know who has opened the assignments each week.

Watch the video on the Homework page if you are unable to access Microsoft Teams - LINK.

If you would like to know how to support your child with writing (including spelling) homework, please visit our support page - Writing Support at Home link.

TIER 1

Your child will need support to learn their phonics letters and sounds. The phonics letters and sounds they are learning are highlighted on the phonics phase mat in their homework book.

Tier 2

Learn the spellings that your teaching assistant has put in your homework book. Ask an adult to quiz you to find out which ones you know and which one you still need to practise. Little and often works best, 5 minutes a day will be perfect!  The activity and games sheet below will help you come up with some fun ways to practise.

Tier 3

This week you will need to continue to learn both the class spellings to practise the rule you have been learning in school and the statutory spellings to help you extend your spelling ability. Ask an adult to quiz you to find out which ones you know and which one you still need to practise. Little and often works best, 5 minutes a day will be perfect!

The activity and games sheet below will help you come up with some fun ways to practise.
