Meet the EAL team
Mrs Kym Wood
I joined the Chesswood team in September 2016 as a class Teaching Assistant and Higher Level Teaching Assistant, covering teachers in other classes when needed.
In 2017, I was given the additional role of Teaching English as an Additional Language (EAL) for a small number of students who spoke English as a second language, giving them extra support with their learning. The role expanded due to the increase in students requiring EAL support and has become my main role in the school. In 2018, I did an additional TEFL course to expand my knowledge of the subject and improve my ability to support my students.
As well as taking small groups for EAL support, I work alongside the children in their classrooms once a week, supporting their in-class learning. I also run the Young Interpreters club as well as making sure our EAL displays are up to date and eye catching.
I thoroughly enjoy my role within the school and being part of the Chesswood community. I have found my role in EAL varied and interesting and enjoy watching the EAL children become more confident with their language skills.
